The image I create may or may not be similar to the original image captured with the camera.  My goal is to create an image that I like, and will like 25 years from now.  How it compares to what my camera captured is often not important.  It is with the post processing darkroom tools that the final image is created with levels of light, color, contrast, hues, tones, shapes, lines and many other artist tools in the digital darkroom.  I will often remove small distractions from an image, but typically do not add significant objects to images I create—just my creative decisions and style.

You don’t take a photograph, you make it. –Ansel Adam

I look for the exceptional perspective of the daily, familiar images around me; and strive to create an evocative image that causes one to pause, and look deeper into the image with questions, and with visual excitement.  Creating the final print for display is as important as the digital capture.  Papers, inks and printing processes are chosen to enhance and reflect the light and colors that are accurate to the digital image and pleasing to the eye.

My imagery often reflects my childhood experience, and continues to feed my high interest in color imagery, rural life, the outdoors and nature.  I travel the roads between the Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast the most, but enjoy most any new place my camera takes me.

Southeast Iowa is my rural childhood home. I’ve lived my adult life with my family in Palmer Lake, Colorado, and travel regularly through the American West.
